Well I was thinking... Instead of banning people who spam .map/.list, just make it so they cant use the commands. Like how only certain people can use Leo, make it like... reverse of that to people who abuse the bots.

In my mind that just sort of punishes people who only pop in the channel occasionally to find a game.
They shouldn't have to suffer because of a few idiots.

Maybe I wasn't clear... I was talking about taking it away from the abusers in question, not everyone.

Well spammers are very inventive - they will find a new way until you ban them...

Very inventive? I don't know how they could possibly get around a general restriction on their commands.
The problem I see is that even if the bots don't accept their commands they will have to parse what the abuser is saying and cross reference with a list of people on the list to verify if that person is allowed to use the commands or not. All of this extra coding may bog down the bot even more and the spam may still end up bringing down the bot anyway.

The reason chukie said it was a punishment is the way that would work is you would have to give access to people. Like the .host program where you would have to be on the AHL to use.
So people that come in occasionally wouldn't have access and not be able to use it. Plus it doesn't prevent the ones that do gain the access to spam the .map/.list commands anyways and they would get banned anyways.

And no, just check in the database if the User is in it - if it is his command are ignored - but the message will still be checked for any other thing you use chat processing (swears, anit-flood protection etc.).
