I was thinking about how useful TBR supersave is and possible methods to making it easier to write programs like it for TBR.
Would it be possible that when you use -save, it outputs the save code to a gamecache? This way a save program only has to parse text in a file instead of requiring you to launch Wc3 with it.

We sure could use a SuperSave for 2.0, though I haven't tryed the old one yet to see if it works.

I also had the idea with gamecaches, it worked like a charm: I could store the hero in the gamecache, start a new game and load the same hero again. But this did not work at battle.net.

I also had the idea with gamecaches, it worked like a charm: I could store the hero in the gamecache, start a new game and load the same hero again. But this did not work at battle.net. if Im remembering right, gamecaches in singleplayer work different than on bnet. in singleplayer they last however long you want them, across multiple maps. on bnet a gamecache is only good for the duration of play. as an example, if you made a gamecache on bnet to store information you would be able to draw information from that gamecache for the duration of that one game but if you made a new game even on same map, it does not transfer over. the important thing is that a gamecache is it's own file created on your computer. essentially it is a varable that can be transfered out of warcraft 3. a person with the mind to do so could write a program that just copy's the contents of the gamecache, in this case a -load string for tbr, and extract the information he wants. this is a much more efficient way than having to hook into the war3 client to extract the info.

You can't create any files with a map played over bnet, only in single player, unless someone has found a workaround, which I don't think they have. (Pretty sure this is so people can't distribute war3 based viruses over bnet)

It may be long gone but it is getting closer to the point where it will matter. That is unless the current supersave will work with 2.0. If it doesn't it may be the way to go when designing one for 2.0 if someone is savvy enough to come up with a way to make it work.
I know I am not looking forward to any RPG without the use of supersave. The days without it are not at all missed. I suppose if games can run for 5 hours it won't be as important but it's nice if we don't have to worry about copy errors and just the trouble of having to write codes.

I don't see whats wrong with not using supersave. I've typed out all my codes. All else fails, theres a really good saving system on another game in bnet. Metal and Magic has it set up so you can type the code ingame to check for errors. Pretty handy for those that cant/dont know how to download supersave. Might be another idea if supersave doesnt turn out well.

Lol no1s considered that supersave wont change till daxxar appears again as he hasnt been aroud for a while. He sent me a reply to a question I asked on February 24th. Seeing as how you posted on the 25th, 1 day does not count as "for a while". That aside, if the gamecache idea actually works it would be easy enough just to make an AutoHotKey script that would work with TBR 2.0. Someone on here mentioned that a b.net game won't output a file though, so I guess it probably wouldn't work if thats true.

SUPERSAVE This simple program was a great invention by daxxar for 1.x and it will be making a triumphant return for 2.0. The codes are quite a bit more complex in the new map since we are saving both experience (no more losing experience because you couldn’t level before the game ended) and the backpack (no more need for a separate bank code) and so keeping track of codes will be even more important. As the map is finalized daxxar will be revising his program so that when 2.0 goes live you should have an updated version of SuperSave to use.
Figure'd I'd throw that in for you incase it had been missed

Excellent to hear it will be back and on release day as well. I was starting to dread having to screenshot and type my code after each game again.

How hard would it be to add when typing -save for wc3 to copy the text to cache I've seen the shortcuts work in gamr, for the nubs that can't figure out SS
