I think that Heroes should age.
So like the game has a timer built into it and then in game time each hour of playing is half a month of living. Your code then keeps track of your age, and you grow up. (You start the game as like a 14 year old)
Then you get weaker but your intelligence goes up and you can replace skills with other skills, and have a stat requirement for certain skills. So an older character would be more of a caster unless he wanted to be a caster from a young age. Then he would be a god caster.
However, there would be some sort of special item that you got for killing so and so(could be multiples) and then thats like a Vial from the Fountain of Youth and you get to lose X years(random generator from 1-50). In this way DPS and Tanks could stay young and be able to fight still.
Just adds another component to the game to make it more intensive.
Also makes an incentive for attempting to grind in a harder area and not just joining a game and loading for 10 minutes and leaving.
Just something to throw out there, could be included in any version.

Interesting idea, but hardly practical. It doesn't sound like an idea someone would enjoy playing through. Realism doesn't seem like something that would make it much better. Maybe an age just for the heck of it, that goes up one every time you save or something, to make you look godly by being several hundred years old and super strong.

Haa that works too except abuse by making aging games just to join, save, quit.

I'm not sure about it, but i think its pretty much skinning needed for this, because for every aged face you need to save one skin. Even if you say, lets take one aging step for each level ( in 2.0 150 aging steps), there have to be 150 skins for every heroe (12*150=1800). This is really PRETTY MUCH and since Bnet Maps have a 4mb cap, i don't think it can be done this way. But the idea is intresting, reminds me of Fable. ;-)

You wouldnt need to have a new skin, just some sort of ability bonus that listed your age and the bonuses because of it.

You could spot hackers this way. If they were level 110, and were only like... 3 saves in... You would know they hacked.
(Though, the good hackers would just find the code for the aging, and give it to their hero...)

But it would make it harder to just install a cheatpack and put it in, you would have to delve into the knowledge of coding. Therefore not every average guy could hack as easily. It lessens the amount of hackers out there.

agin based on your lvl (like 10/25/50/100/etc/etc) ftw, that way u wouldnt be able to abuse it, but i dont think u can "age" on games like wc3 customs, it'd have to be new models, and dont be worrying about those hackers and what not, most get bored and go play something new after a few days or a week or 2

But it would make it harder to just install a cheatpack and put it in, you would have to delve into the knowledge of coding. Therefore not every average guy could hack as easily. It lessens the amount of hackers out there. Some of the best hackers have already agreed not to hack 2.0. So yeah... but a CP isn't what I'd put in 2.0, I would expect some anti-cheats. Especially using strings from each pack so that the double one corrupts it. But the fact is... once one person hacks it... just about anyone can get a hacked character. (I should know, haha...) As for the aging... as said before, you'd have to use new models to show it... but using an icon that shows how many times you've saved or whatever would be a good way... or keeping a count of how many times your character has killed the bosses. Though, they might have to write a custom saving/loading script system to make it keep count of unit kills... or w/e. But yeah, the idea is a very good anti-hack. Though, there will be people who could easily get around it... very easy. But it'd keep any noob hacker away. For the time being, anyways...

I agree with ambiguously, as said before, your idea required many resources and pros to succeed...it will if anyone willing to sacrifice their lifetime to do it.

a good idea, however maybe just have it there as an unimportant detail or something if all else fails.

hmm yea in certain ways i guess. however just becasue your old it doesn't necessarily mean that u've learned lots of stuff, foreksampel, if u sit in your living room all day just staring at the wall everyday for 50 years, u'll probably have learned every single detail in your wall, but apart from that u wont have learned a thing.

Nobody will be inteligent enough to do that. i was merely giving an example to prove a point. i'm just saying that just because your old it doesn't necessarily mean that your that experienced or anything, even though most people are.

hmm well maybe when u reach a certain age, fx. 78 yrs old, u'r char will be so old that he/she needs to stop adventuring or the char will die, or u can make a quest out of it. lets say u'r char is getting old and u'll need to find the elixir of youth or something similar, and u need someone to make it for u and that person needs some special crafting mats whihc u can find in different locations or they drop from different mobs.

Good idea. Didn't thought of that. But what if u don't get that elixir. Will you then die and be forced to start a new char??

yea maybe, but then again u wouldn't have to save if your char died. or u make it possible for the rest of the players to res u, as discussed in the "new res method" thread. or have a warning telling u when u'll die, like "warning: u'll die in 5 games" or something like that
